We have an opening for a full-time system developer/analyst to support existing and new software projects. Responsibilities include both software design and development tasks. The ideal candidate will be capable of taking a project through requirements, design, and development while maintaining high quality and attention to detail throughout the process. With that said, our immediate needs require solid programming skills. If you don't have a strong requirements and design background but want to learn via hands on experience, we want to hear from you.
We are primarily a Microsoft shop. Existing projects are in Classic ASP and ASP.NET. New projects involve both ASP.NET Web Forms and ASP.NET MVC platforms. Experience transitioning existing applications from Classic ASP to ASP.NET is a strong plus.
This is a contract to permanent position with telecommuting comprising 80% or more of your time. However, the remainder of your time will require on-site work, at times with short notice, and consequently you must be located near the Washington, DC area.
Compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications. Initially this is an hourly position with rates between $30 - $45 an hour and a general stipend to offset communication expenses, but no other benefits. After 6 months, successful candidates will be offered the option of a salaried position or to continue at an hourly rate.
Candidates MUST have experience in the following: ASP.NET (C#, Web Forms, MVC 2.0/3.0), Classic ASP, Microsoft SQL Server, AJAX, XML, CSS, HTML/DHTML, and JavaScript.
Candidates MUST have working knowledge with most of the following applications: IIS 6.0/IIS 7.0/IIS 7.5, Visual Studio 2008, Visual Studio 2010, Windows Server 2003/2008, and SQL Server 2000/2005/2008.
A successful candidate will also have a strong SQL background and will be comfortable writing complex queries and stored procedures.
Please forward your resume and a description of your work/project experience. Please highlight any related experience telecommuting or working with minimal supervision.

Subscription Web Site Designer (Sterling, VA)
I am looking for an experienced web site designer with database design experience to assist me in setting up several new subscription/membership sites preferably with PHP and MySQL, but other applications will be considered. Your services will be obtained as a contractor, not as an employee.
Email contact is acceptable to address any questions or clarification of the tasking. Written communications are to be mailed to: Thomas Day, PO Box 16495, Washington DC 20041.
YOUR RESUME MUST include as the FIRST section of the resume, links to subscription sites you have created. You must include the name, phone number, and email for a person who is familiar with the work that you performed for each of the listed sites. You may include or not include other sites, but my primary focus will be on your experience with subscription sites. Your resume must include a mail to address and a ship to address if they are different.
YOU MUST mail a hard copy of your resume to Thomas Day, PO Box 16495, Washington DC 20041. This is required to evaluate the time required to mail materials back and forth. You may also send your resume and other materials via email.
I will proceed in a manner similar to contracting with the Federal Government [see https://www.acquisition.gov/far/ ] wherein you will submit a written proposal (emailed in draft, mailed with signatures when final) that will establish your time and material hourly labor rates for the perceived labor categories for one year after the date of contract award. Your proposal should present a step-by-step approach to the tasking with a quote for each of the labor categories to be used in the task, the hours for each labor category required to perform the task, the total cost for the task, and a summation of the costs for each task quoted as the total cost for the completed project. Once we reach agreement on the tasks to be performed, I will then proceed to execute each task as a task order which will become the written contract. Payment will be made upon completion of the task in accordance with your terms of payment. Once ordered, tasks may overlap and may proceed concurrently with other tasks.
The project will be to serve as my tutor to assist me in setting up the first site so that I understand the process. As we progress and I become more comfortable with your abilities, I may assign other sites for you to create. Although I have extensive experience with other applications, my starting point for working with PHP and MySQL is the book, "PHP and MySQL Web Development" by Luke Welling and Laura Thomson, fourth edition. I have used Microsoft FrontPage for years, but I will be using Microsoft Expression Web 3 to design the pages for these new sites.
Your role will be that of the lead designer/developer but you may recommend other sources that I will put under contract for areas requiring specialized expertise. The first site will be used to provide online training for annual subscribers and will have multiple levels of access. A person is a "Visitor" to the home page although the design may require access to other pages such as a login page. All visitors will be required to register to move beyond the Home Page (or a limited number of other pages) and I will define them as "Guests" at this level of access. These pages will provide Site design will include the means to reset passwords and email new passwords when a person forgets their password. There will be pages beyond the Home Page that will be accessible to Guests. The next level will be for paid "Subscribers" and they will have access to all of the training pages. The next level will be for "Members" who may be co-authors with permission to add, modify, and delete pages from their area of the web. For example, they may be translating pages from the English pages to the language of their expertise and posting them in their folders. Then there will be "Administrator" levels for designers and developers to work on the site. Part of the site design will be to include blogs for the different levels of access.
The primary product will be downloadable pages (Word files) that will contain Excel macros to be run on their PCs. I will be the author of most of these pages and will be continually adding more pages. Animated pages and/or video downloads are an eventuality, but not for the immediate future. Subscriptions will be via a major credit card and will require setting up typical subscription related pages and/or notifications such as pending automatic renewal or cancellation of the subscription. I will need the ability to extend a subscription one year at a time without cost to the paid subscriber. Some products (books or videos) will be available through online shopping carts placed appropriately depending on the level of access in the site. Some pages will be accessible without a subscription, but most will require the subscription. Most pages will be static pages with infrequent updates.
Design and maintenance of the subscribers/membership database will be part of the tasking. I currently host my sites with http://www.Buzix.com and have been with them for about 15 years with minimal problems. As site traffic grows, you will have responsibility for administrative functions to ensure bandwidth capability, setup and maintenance of email accounts.
Although a significant portion of the tasking can be conducted by phone or email, there are likely to be some occasions for face to face meetings. Therefore, you must live within a reasonable commute of Sterling Virginia or be prepared to pay for your costs to commute here or for my costs to commute to your location.
The first task in your proposal will be performed by telephone, or personal visit and will be to ensure that I have properly configured Expression Web 3 to use PHP and MySQL on my laptop. This is an evaluation task to demonstrate your ability to address technical issues. If I accept your proposal for this task, you will be paid in accordance with the terms of your task order at the completion of this task.
The second task is used in my evaluations is the requirement to submit a database design document s that specifies each relational database you envision, the server configuration of the databases to maintain the security of the data, the tables for each database, and the fields within each of the tables. This is an evaluation task to evaluate your database design abilities. If I accept your proposal for this task, you will be paid in accordance with the terms of your task order.
If you have questions or concerns, contact me.

Marketade, a DC-based internet marketing consultancy, is looking for a part-time consultant to take on new SEO/SEM projects.
About the role:
This is a self-managed position. We'll share our processes, expectations, and feedback early on -- but you should know search marketing better than we do. If you need training and oversight, this job isn't for you.
You work directly with clients and own projects from start to finish.
We pay you by the hour.
Rate is $50-$100 per hour depending on your experience and the types of projects you can take on.
Telecommuting and remote working are fine. We prefer someone in the DC area but it's not required.
You have the option to work from Affinity Lab, a shared workspace on U Street where we are a member.
About the projects:
You'll likely start with SEO/SEM projects for small businesses.
These projects will be in the 15-30 hour range and will roughly follow the process and structure described here.
Over time you'll take on projects for larger clients.
Workload will be highly variable at least at the outset.
You must have expertise in:
SEO - including keyword research, content and title tag optimization, and local search
AdWords - including campaign/ad group structure, conversion tracking/optimization, negative keywords, and ad copy testing
Google Analytics - including conversion goals, custom reports, and traffic source analysis
You must also have:

Good content writing and editing skills

ASP/ASP.NET System Developer/Analyst (Fairfax, VA)
We're a small software development company based in Northern Virginia. Since 2001 we have served a small, diverse, and dedicated customer base including corporate and non-profit organizations local to the Washington, DC area.
We are a small shop so a template response won't get us excited. Convince us on why you're a good fit for this position and we'll schedule an interview.
